In this thought-provoking discussion, author and journalist David Wolman shares insights from his award-winning work of nonfiction, Aloha Rodeo. David will discuss how he uncovered and researched this amazing story, reactions to the book in Hawaii and beyond, and what this overlooked episode can teach us about the American West.
David Wolman is a former contributing Editor at Outside and a longtime contributor at Wired. He has aleo written for publications such as the New York Times, New Yorker, Wall Street Journal, Smithsonian, BusisnessWeek, and Nature. His latest book, Aloha Rodeo (HarperCollins) won the 2020 Oregon Book Award, and was chosen by NPR as one of the 100 best books of the year. His work has been anthologized in the Best American Science and Nature Writing series, and his feature about Egyptian revolutionaries was nominated for a National Magazine Award. David is a former Fulbright journalism fellow in Japan and a graduate of Stanford University's journalism program. His other books are The End of Money, A Left-Hand Turn Around the World, and Righting the Mother Tongue.
